Frequently asked questions
Does SAM.gov registration cost money?
No. Registration on SAM.gov is free. Some private companies charge to do it for you, but you never have to pay the government to register.
What is a UEI?
The Unique Entity ID is a 12-character ID issued by SAM.gov. It replaced the DUNS number in 2022 and identifies your business across federal contracting systems.
How often do I renew SAM.gov registration?
Every year. If your registration expires you can't be awarded new federal contracts, so set a reminder well before the expiration date.
